Amazon has announced a major expansion plan in New York State with a new $500 million investment to build a state-of-the-art robotics fulfillment center in the Town of Gates, Monroe County. The facility, which will span over 3.1 million square feet, is expected to open by 2026 and bring more than 1,000 new full-time jobs to the region. This development marks one of the largest private sector investments in the area in recent years and is part of Amazon’s broader effort to modernize its logistics operations with advanced robotics and automation technology.
According to company officials, the new center will handle the picking, packing, and shipping of smaller customer orders, improving delivery speed and efficiency across the Northeast. The site will incorporate Amazon’s latest robotic systems to reduce physical strain on workers and enhance productivity. The state and local governments have offered a combination of tax incentives and grants to support the project, including funding from Empire State Development to ensure job creation and workforce development.
Local leaders, including Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, welcomed the investment, calling it a “transformational moment” for the regional economy. “This is a major vote of confidence in our workforce and our community,” said Bello. The project is also expected to boost nearby small businesses, infrastructure development, and related service sectors.
Construction is slated to begin later this year, and Amazon says it will launch recruitment efforts well in advance of the facility’s opening. This announcement underscores New York’s continued appeal as a hub for technological innovation and large-scale logistics infrastructure.
