Microsoft has announced plans to invest over $1 billion to build a new data center campus in Westchester County, New York, as part of its growing cloud infrastructure expansion across the United States. The tech giant has acquired a 150-acre site in the town of Cortlandt, where it intends to construct a multi-building facility to support its Azure cloud platform.
Local officials praised the announcement, noting that the project is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs in the short term and dozens of high-paying tech jobs once the center is operational. The data center will also bring major tax revenue to the region and is expected to boost local infrastructure development.
Microsoft emphasized its commitment to sustainable development, stating that the facility will use 100% renewable energy and implement energy-efficient cooling systems to minimize environmental impact. The campus will feature state-of-the-art security and be designed to meet the growing demand for cloud services in the Northeast.
Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with the first phase projected to go online by 2027. This marks one of the largest tech investments in New York State in recent years and highlights the state’s appeal as a growing hub for digital infrastructure.
