In a significant stride toward educational advancement, New York City is set to inaugurate seven new public schools across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island for the 2025–2026 academic year. This initiative, announced by Mayor Eric Adams and Schools Chancellor Melissa Avilés-Ramos, aims to add over 3,800 new seats, addressing overcrowding and introducing specialized programs tailored to diverse student needs.
The forthcoming institutions include the Bronx STEAM Center, focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics to prepare students for future careers; the Central Brooklyn Literacy Academy, dedicated to supporting students with dyslexia and other language-based learning challenges; and the Middle School of Innovation in South Brooklyn, which integrates digital technologies and artificial intelligence into its curriculum. Additionally, the HBCU Early College Prep High School will offer a unique opportunity for students to engage in college-level courses starting in ninth grade, fostering early exposure to higher education.
This expansion is part of the Adams administration’s broader commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure, which includes the opening of 28 new schools since the start of the administration, totaling over 13,700 new seats citywide. By investing in these innovative learning environments, the city aims to provide equitable access to quality education and equip students with the skills necessary for success in an evolving world.
